I’ve got a goal for my winter’s
writing. I will study. My textbooks include a group of Alice Munro
books, and a book that introduces me to reading literature like a professor. Those will do for now. I have others.
I like having structure and purpose and
things that I want to learn. Funnily
enough, I am not fond of formal classrooms or any set of directions or
instructions given by another. My mind
seems to resist that imposition. So I
build my own lessons, assign my own homework and assess my own successes.
Mostly I ask for momentum; it is enough
to be working (playing) with words. I’m
a pretty good student and a pretty good teacher. I change things up. I don’t give up. And I certainly don’t get bored.
